Leaving a stable, high-paying corporate career to pursue entrepreneurship is one of the most common hurdles for ambitious women. The fear of "desperate energy" and losing a financial safety net can keep you paralyzed in a role you have already outgrown. In this episode, I’m joined by financial coach Foluke Olayele to discuss how to strategically build a bridge toward your dream life without compromising your peace or your bank account.

Foluke shares her journey through three different businesses and her 24-year corporate career, offering a masterclass in identity shifts and practical financial frameworks. We talk about why high-achievers often undercharge for their brilliance and how to borrow the belief of a mentor until your own confidence catches up to your calling.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this conversation:

  • How to shift from a poverty mentality to an unshakeable belief in your value

  • The exact 50/10/10/10/20 framework to manage your money with intention

  • Why failure is a prerequisite for success and how to fail forward quickly

  • Practical steps to use your current paycheck as seed money for your future business

Building the Financial Bridge from Corporate to Entrepreneurship with Foluke Olayele

I know exactly how it feels to be the last person picking up your kids from daycare, wishing you could be more present while simultaneously feeling the pull to make a bigger impact in the world. For many of us, entrepreneurship is the way to that "And" life—being a powerhouse CEO and a present wife and mom. But the jump from a steady corporate salary to the unknown can feel like walking a tightrope without a net.

That is why I am so excited for you to hear from my friend Foluke Olayele. Foluke is a financial coach who recently made the leap from a 24-year corporate career. Her wisdom on bridging the gap between a 9-to-5 and full-time entrepreneurship is the truth with a hug every ambitious woman needs to hear right now.

Reframing Your Current Career

One of the biggest mistakes I see high-achievers make is viewing their corporate job as a prison. When you feel stuck, you start to operate from a place of frustration and resentment. Foluke shared a perspective shift that changes everything: see your current employer as your very first high-paying client.

When you show up as a free agent or a contractor, you realize you are charging that client for your expertise. That paycheck isn't just a salary; it is seed money. You can use that income to fund your coaching, invest in your systems, and build the financial cushion you need so that when you do finally leave, you aren't acting from a place of desperation. Desperate energy is a client repellent. By staying in your job with intention, you give your business the space to grow on "milk" while you remain financially supported.

The Power of Aligned Identity

We can have all the spreadsheets and systems in the world, but if your identity isn't aligned with the woman who earns $10k months, you will find a way to stay small. Foluke and I talked about the struggle of undercharging. Many of us start out charging $100 for a session because we are too insecure to own our worth. I’ve been there, cringing at the memory of my early photography business where I gave away the farm for pennies.

The shift happens when you decide to borrow the belief of a mentor or a coach. If you can’t see your own value today, adopt the perspective of someone who does. Whether it is God’s perspective of your potential or a coach who sees your blind spots, you have to cultivate an unshakeable belief in what you bring to the table. When you charge what you are worth, you give your clients the dignity of a stretch, and you give yourself the capacity to serve them at the highest level.

The 50/10/10/10/20 Framework

Foluke introduced a practical framework that moves us out of scarcity and into abundance. It isn't just about paying the bills; it’s about training your brain that money is good and fun. She suggests tithing the first 10% to acknowledge that your talents are a gift. Then, put 10% toward your future self and 10% into a short-term savings goal. But here is the part I love: 10% is mandated fun money. You must spend it this month. Why? Because it keeps you from the hoarding mentality that comes with fear.

When you prove to your brain that you can let money move freely, you break the cycle of anxiety. You start to trust that more is always coming. This level of proactive planning gives you a sense of peace that allows you to show up in your business with high vibes and unshakeable confidence.

Failing Your Way to Success

If you are on your second or third business attempt and feeling like a failure, please hear this: most successful founders didn't get it right the first time. Foluke is on her third business, and I am too. Those previous "failures" were actually training grounds. They gave us the resilience, the editing skills, and the character needed to handle the success we have now.

Success isn't about never failing; it’s about failing quickly and getting back up. When you stop seeing a "no" or a slow month as a sign that you aren't cut out for this, you become unstoppable. You are destined for greatness, and that path to abundance should be easy when you align your strategy with your spirit.
