In my conversation on the Redeem Her Time Podcast with Lissa Figgins, we talk about the belief-performance connection and how subconscious programming quietly drives decisions you don’t even realize you’re making. The truth is, you can be wildly capable and still find yourself undercharging, hesitating to sell, overthinking every move, or trying to do everything “the right way,” and then wondering why you’re exhausted. I’ve lived it. I used to think if five things worked, fifteen would work faster. It didn’t. It just burned me out.
We get practical about discernment too. I teach how to ASK, SEEK, and KNOCK, and why the “seek” part requires slowing down long enough to actually listen. Sometimes God answers through patterns, conversations, and even your body. I explain what discernment feels like for me, expansiveness versus restriction, and how to tell the difference between fear that is a warning and fear that simply shows you are standing at the edge of your next level.
In this episode, we unpack:
- How perfectionism and overthinking block authenticity, confidence, and connection
- Why aligned action matters more than copying everyone else’s strategy
- How to build discernment through practice, not pressure
I also share my 7 C’s framework, the internal shifts that make taking aligned action easier: Choice, Clarity, Connectedness, Confidence, Courage, Consistency, and Conquer (resilience).
Because strategy isn’t the real issue if your beliefs are still running the show.
If you’ve been settling for “fine,” stuck in your head, or sensing that God has more for you but you cannot quite name it yet, this conversation will help you reconnect belief, courage, and forward momentum, one obedient step at a time.
[0:00–0:54] Opening: Belief, performance, and getting back in the driver’s seat
Lissa welcomes listeners back and introduces Dr. LaChelle Wieme as a returning guest. She frames the conversation around the belief-performance connection, explaining that subconscious thoughts and beliefs often drive business decisions behind the scenes. The episode focuses on how to reclaim confidence, create bigger results, and move forward in what God has called listeners to do.
[1:01–6:53] LaChelle’s story: From “boxes checked” to a deeper calling
LaChelle shares her background in anesthesia and describes living a life that looked ideal on paper, marriage, kids, dream home, and professional success. In 2016, she sensed God nudging her toward something unexpected: selling skincare online, even though she was not prioritizing self-care at the time. She explains that discernment often comes as a gentle, persistent nudge rather than a dramatic sign. Saying yes required her to face fear of being seen and judged, but that step became part of her transformation.
[4:04–10:31] Entrepreneurship as personal development, and the “fine” trap
LaChelle explains that entrepreneurship became personal development with a paycheck. She realized her achievements and titles had become a way of proving worth, rather than resting in who God already said she was. As she grew, she recognized she had been missing vulnerability, authenticity, and deeper connection, while trying to create a balanced “and life” where she could make impact and stay present for her family. She challenges the idea of settling for “fine,” explaining that “fine” can become a spiritual and emotional ceiling when God is calling someone higher.
[10:31–17:04] Gentle leadership, perfectionism, and the burnout loop
Lissa shares a parallel reflection on hearing God as a lifestyle, describing Jesus as a gentle guide who invites rather than forces. Together, they discuss how perfectionism and high-achiever energy can lead to overconsumption of strategy and personal development, creating overwhelm and burnout. LaChelle explains that when people follow the “patterns of the world” and copy everyone else’s strategy, they often miss the aligned strategy God has for them, then assume they are the problem when it does not work.
[17:10–26:51] BE–DO–HAVE and ASK–SEEK–KNOCK: Discernment and aligned action
LaChelle introduces the BE–DO–HAVE framework, focusing on identity first, then aligned action, then results. She teaches ASK–SEEK–KNOCK as a practical rhythm: asking God for direction, seeking by slowing down enough to listen, then knocking through obedience and action. She shares how discernment can include noticing patterns, unexpected conversations, and even body-based cues, using an “expansive vs. restrictive” check to help clarify decisions. She also distinguishes between a restrictive no and an expansive yes that still feels scary because it stretches comfort zones. She shares her own fear around leaving a secure career, and how obedience in 2022 unlocked rapid growth and momentum.
[27:41–41:20] The 7 C’s: The internal keys that unlock execution and growth
LaChelle outlines her “7 C’s” framework as the underlying mindset and belief foundations that support consistent aligned action: Choice, Clarity, Connectedness, Confidence, Consistency, Conquer (resilience), and Courage (which she notes she almost forgot, because she hates blanks). She explains how limiting beliefs often show up as undercharging, fear of being seen, difficulty delegating, or avoiding hard conversations. She reframes fear as a question of capacity, asking what someone is truly afraid of, what the worst-case scenario is, and what they would do if it happened, which helps remove fear’s power and supports forward movement.
[42:12–50:37] Practice, curiosity, and trusting discernment
Lissa shares her “steer belief map” and notes how thoughts drive emotions, execution, and results. LaChelle emphasizes starting small by asking God for guidance in everyday decisions to build discernment trust over time. She teaches that confidence is created through action, not before it, and encourages listeners to replace self-shaming with curiosity and playfulness. She distinguishes discernment as choosing between “good” and “almost good,” not simply good versus bad, and reminds listeners that God is not derailed by imperfect choices. She also addresses the common question of whether discernment is “just me,” explaining that God often leads her to actions she would not choose on her own, and that even unexpected outcomes can still be part of God’s larger plan.
[51:02–56:16] Next steps and closing: shedding, action, and visibility
LaChelle shares a free resource, the Flow State Money Reset, for listeners who want to deepen discernment and apply the framework. In the closing question, she references the Chinese calendar as a way of noticing cyclical patterns, describing 2025 as a “shedding” season and the next season as action and visibility. She invites listeners to consider what they are being called to release and where they are ready to show up with authenticity, courage, and mission-driven visibility.
