hello and welcome back to the Holistic Money Podcast

y'all I am so excited for today's episode

because I have an amazing

beautiful human on this podcast with me

who is so open and so ready

to share everything about a huge financial transition

that she is made within the past couple years

we're gonna dive all into that today

but I recently met Lachelle

and LaChelle is a spirit LED mompreneur

who knows what it's like to juggle a career

in a family in a deeper calling

and she left a 20 year career as a nurse

anesthesiologist to coach

multipassionate entrepreneurs

on how to make income faster

and how to just have better businesses

right and have more fun doing it

so I'm so excited to have LaChelle on today

and LaChelle today is a really big day for you

it is it is

it is a day that I've been dreaming about

for a really long time

it is the day that my first solo book hit the market

and yeah so

I'm just so excited that I get to talk to you on such a

really big monumental day for me

yes yes

okay

can you just really quickly tell us about this book

cause I know we all wanna know

yeah it's called Get Out of God's Way

get over yourself

and step into the beautiful purpose that he has

for your life in business

and it's really for those people who

kind of get stuck in confusion

and overthinking and fear and doubt

and maybe some inconsistencies

or lack of organization that really

keep them from stepping into their full potential

Yay I'm so excited to have you here

because everything that you're teaching

and everything that you're writing

is what you're living yeah

yeah yeah

and so that's what I wanna talk about today

because I know that there are a lot of

entrepreneurs that listen to this podcast

and there are a lot of people

who are really considering

making this leap from their careers to

going into full time entrepreneurship

and it is just as much a financial

spiritual emotional decision as anything else right

you really have to be operating on all three of those

fronts and I just love the work that you do

cause

I really believe that it brings all of that together

and really help someone holistically

so I just think you're the perfect person to have here

and we're gonna talk about your journey

because it was a big deal

I'm sure for you to leave your 20 year career

making really good money yeah

to start a business tell us about it

yeah well

you know honestly

it wasn't a thing that I had actually ever

planned to do so

I went to school for what seemed like 100 years

to get my bachelor's

master and a doctorate degree in MC to practice

and I is literally living my dream life

so my husband

and I were grateful enough to build our dream home

when I was 29 years old that I designed

we have two healthy happy kids

and I was teaching for the doctor of Nurse

Anesthesia program at the Mayo Clinic

and was working alongside

some of the best surgeons in the world

half the time that I was at work

and everything felt great

but I felt like there was something missing

and so when

the opportunity to start my first online business

came into my periphery

it honestly did seem like a complete wackadoo

like I did not have any time

or resources to do something like that

but I couldn't stop thinking about it

and I think that

that's one of the things that I recognize with myself

and the people that I talk to

and the people I learn from

is that we recognize this

this inner calling inside of our gut

inside of our soul

that is leaning us into something better

that might be a better financial situation

that might be better balance

it might be better just fulfillment

and honestly that's where I was at the time

so it sounds like I had everything

you know mapped out and working well

and it was but what's funny is that

I've always had this tendency

of finding ways to capitalize

and finding ways to make money

and I started my first online business honestly

because I was looking for just another challenge

I look for something that gave me

in a way to have a creative outlet

outside of what I was already doing

but I also recognize like

oh my gosh

like I can make money from my phone or hey

I'm also loving the products that I'm selling

and now I get a discount on them

so it's kind of

all of those things took place that allowed me to

to even start that business in the first place

but it's leaning into that and then recognizing like oh

there's more to it this than I thought

there was and that's kind of how it all got started

yeah okay

so I mean

I'm just listening to you talk about your career

previously

and I can only imagine that it was a high paying job

how much were you making at your job

before you decided to leave

yeah so when I was first started my online business

I was point nine FTE

which meant that I worked 36 hours every two weeks

and I was pulling in just under $200,000 a year

and my business actually

all my business took off pretty quickly

I was making enough money within about six months

to be able to cut back at the hospital

a day a week

but um yeah

we just kind of took it slowly

and after I knew that the income was consistent enough

then I'm like alright

let's do this and knowing that our backup plan is at

you know at least in healthcare

I could always pick up an extra shift if I wanted to

and so that's kind of always our risk mitigation

is knowing that we can always do more if we have to

yeah and I

I love that because I know that there can be some

coaches out there that are just like

if you really love your business

and you're really ready to show up for it

and go all in and your job

and go into your business full time

and ask someone who's coached so many

people on their finances it can be a really

highly pressurized situation

for people to just make that jump without

what you were describing as the stairstep right

I mean

I think that there's a lot that we can unpack with that

because you know

there is something to be said about

having your feet in two boats

at the same time right

like you're never really that stable

because you're a little off balance

because you have one foot in each one

and I think that sometimes energetically

we have to get to this point where we're like alright

like I got my back against the wall

like there's no other options than me bucking up

and I have to go for this

so there's something to be said about that

and I think that a lot of people are not as successful

they need to be because they play it safe too long

or they're constantly just balancing back and forth

and they're not getting any traction

and sometimes it literally takes

getting to a point where there are no other options

for us to get out of our own heads

and that's what the book is honestly all about is the

all the things that we do to sabotage our success

it's you know

we're cooking along and we have really great success

and then all of a sudden we overthink things

or we get one battery view

or somebody who drops our services or

you know you name it

and then we start to pull away and we start to

to lose our confidence a little bit

we start to to wonder if we really have what it takes

and then we lose momentum

and and that's downward spiral happens

and so

I think that sometimes it does take some commitment

some owning it some burn the boats kind of moments

in order for you to take yourself seriously enough

to do the things that are brave and hard

on the other hand I'm very strategic

but I also believe that it's not always what we do

it's who we are while we do it

that's where the quantum physics that I teaches

come in okay

and so when I give clients a strategy

on how to build their business

I could give you grips all day long sale scripts

I can give you to do list all day long

but literally if you're not showing up as the boss

that needs to boss up and be powerful

and of service oriented in and competent

you're not going to attract

the business of the people that you want to work with

and so I think that sometimes

when you make yourself so desperate

that you back yourself into a corner

where I call it desperation breath

yeah

I don't even know how I'm gonna feed my kids tonight

then you're

you're gonna start to show up with different energy

and I know that sounds a woo woo

but there's so much brain science

and quantum physics that's around that

that when you show up with this needy energy

it does turn people off and so

I always like people to just

make sure that they're weighing

the balance between those two

the burn the boats owning it

while also

making sure that we're not getting sucked into

desperation because

I want them to make sure that

I'm doing everything that I can

to help them step up into their power

and rise up to the very best versions of themselves

whenever they are leading any task in their business

whenever they're climbing any conversation

their business

because that is what's going to get you greater impact

income faster absolutely

I totally agree

because at some point you do have to decide hey

this is what I'm doing this is what I'm going all in on

and I may be willing to

make a little bit less in the beginning

or not you know

who knows whatever happens when I go into this business

I know that I'm gonna really go for it and be all in

yeah so for you

your path was you decided to start your business

while you were doing your career

yeah and then when was the moment where you were like

okay I'm ready

I'm going I'm going all in

one of like give people this opportunity

to recognize that

the average millionaire has seven streams of income

or more and so

I want you guys to recognize that I was bringing in

additional income outside of my full time career

when I made this decision

so I had affiliate like

I would automatically talk about

products and services that I really liked

and so I was getting affiliate income from those

I had my skincare business that was still running

and I had so many systems and automations in place

that it was running on its own

so it was receiving income from that

that I started about two years ago

I started my first part of my coaching business

at the time was social media coaching

so what I was doing

is recognizing that people were really struggling

getting consistent on social media

which

is required if you're gonna build an online business

right and so

I taught people how to build

a year's worth of content in a weekend

and I first tried it on some of my own friends and and

you know close colleagues

it went over well um

decided to bring that into the market

and so I was doing that

and then I built additional income from there

where it was a membership that I allowed for people to

join me

after they've gone through the social media course

to give them you know additional support

and then I built on top of that

a retreat for people to wanna come

so like I kept

like adding different ways to monetize what I was

doing automatically and so

I wanna just make sure that you guys recognize that

there are ways that you can bring an income

that doesn't have to be an all or nothing

it literally just matters on recognizing

and leaning into the desire that

you know

what it is that you want in the lifestyle that you want

I think that when I look back on

you know my career choices

I was you know

gonna be a cardiac surgeon when I started college

like that was my that was my goal

and I remember having this aha

moment that

I realized that I would not be able to be a good mom

and a cardiac surgeon

and I decided to go a different route

and I go into anesthesia instead

because I recognized that at the time

and I think that I got a little bit caught up in my

own pursuit of achieving things

because I kept getting bigger

you know degrees and better jobs and and such

and so

I think that when you lean in to that initial desire

I leaned in and decided like

you know what I am not the mom that I wanted to be

this is why I went into this career path

and here I am the last mom

tearing into the daycare center at the end of the day

right before they close and this is not what I wanted

so my guiding desire you guys

was the and life and that's what I discovered

when I started my first online business

that I could have a challenge and fulfilling an

in fact driven career and be more present mom and wife

and that's what drove my desires

so you have to lean into what

that inkling is inside of you

that's my underlying why right

yeah absolutely

so when you were leaving your job

and you had multiple income streams

had you replace your income completely through your job

or did you take that leap of faith where you knew hey

I'm not quite there but I'm gonna take lower income

while this continues to build

you know what actually both

this is really fascinating

so I happen to have a conversation with

one of my anesthetic colleagues

who had had gone somewhere to work

and I was hanging out with her

at her cabin over the weekend

and she said LaChelle

you realize right

that some small hospitals will pay you to cover

you know overnight call

just in case they have emergencies on the weekends

and I was like I've never thought about that

and so I literally got back to

you know work the next week and I

on my break I looked it up

and sure enough

there was a hospital near my hometown that needed help

and what was crazy is that

they were actually paying more than I was getting paid

in my current job

with me working just one week a month

and if I hadn't been following that desire

if I hadn't leaned in if I hadn't been open

energetically to that conversation

that solution right

I would have been stuck miserable

sad in the space that I was

and so what I did was

I took this opportunity to sleep with faith

my husband and I kind of talked about it

and I decided to transfer my pension into

you know a wrath

and I left my full time career

and I decided to help out the small hospital um

when I can and it's awesome

because it gives us the family safety net

of knowing that hey

like if I want to invest in something with my business

or we have a big

two week trip planned to Utah this summer

if I want to you know

help them out the hospital

you know

a couple extra days just to give us a little cushion

I can and so

what I wanted to tell you guys

is that there are solutions

creative solutions out there

if you just open your eyes to them

it doesn't have to be a black or white

and once I realize that

everything started to work out in my favor

and I it

was able to start making the decision

that allowed me to to stay in the owning it stage

without having a desperation breath

hmm yes

so

did you all have to make any changes to your lifestyle

or cut back on your expenses or anything like that

because you know I know a lot of entrepreneurs that

when they first make this job

they really have to make sure that they're

financially prepared for this

so how did you all

besides putting together the income streams

did you do anything else yeah

I mean I think that we have been very

because we're very conservative people

you know I like I said

I we like nice things

but I was driving around a 600 dollar

car that we bought from a co worker of his

just because I could

so it didn't matter that I made a good living

like I didn't care right

and so we had like

so we had a solid six months in our savings account for

you know our emergency fund

we don't have any debt other than our home

and you know I have been

maxing

out my retirement contributions for last 20 years

and we finally just went to our financial advisor

honestly and and we're just like

can you just tell me if this is even possible

and it was so interesting because Whitney

like my husband is so he's such a warrior

and um I just remembered like

going into our financial advisor's office

and I would

encourage all of you guys to talk to Whitney

if this is something that you want to consider

because when Greg looked at our numbers and he's like

if there's ever anyone that I could

say could do this at you too

we could

we had set up responsible finances ahead of time

and it allowed for us to have the flexibility

of that risk and so it was like

I remember looking over at my husband

and I saw him just like he relaxes body

and I remember like stepping out of the office

um in the parking lot and I started crying

and it was like this stuckness like was

was lifted because we had somebody that knew

from the outside looking in

that we were gonna be okay

and I knew like this is a thing too

I think that you guys we

I at least I do and a lot of my clients

you get stuck into an all or nothing mindset

black or white and I remember

one of my friends reminding me

that there are closed doors

and open door risks

and the closed doors is like there's no going back

but my risk was an open door risk

it did not work out

I could always get another job in anesthesia

and so wait this be open

open to all the different angles

all the possibilities but you know

just like I said making smart decisions

have definitely set us up for it to be less risky

yes and I think that it's so great to hear this

because you can start your financial journey

at any stage

and if you are someone who is currently in that career

and you know what you want for yourself is

you eventually want to follow your heart

you wanna follow your passion

you know you have

the desire to help other people through your work

in a more meaningful way

starting these great financial habits right now

while you're in the position

while you have like LaChelle was talking about

the ability to receive

and the ability to really channel

and flow your money

in a way that's reflective of what you want

for yourself

starting that now is such a wonderful muscle to start

to strengthen as you move into entrepreneurship

because as you start to move into entrepreneurship

your relationship with money

what I found is

that was actually when I did my biggest money work

when I move from my 9 to 5

to my entrepreneurial journey

was when I

really started to dig into my relationship with money

when I was really starting to explore

my ability to charge a lot of money

for the work that I was doing

or my ability to communicate effectively

the value that I delivered

in order to reflect

the amount of money that I wanted to charge

and so I think it's so great to start it now

and then just continue to build these habits

and it's so wonderful

because your energy around the work that you have

is so uplifting like even talking to you

it's just like I can feel my

my internal state changing

and I really believe that

there's a lot that goes into that

including your relationship with money

so I know going into entrepreneurship

there are UPS and downs there are UPS and downs

in all different aspects of life

were there any big

financial challenges that you experienced

since you've started your business

um I

I would say

is recognizing that there's nothing wrong with you

if you have to pivot

and I found this happening with me

it's like in my mind

I felt like as soon as I left my full time career

everything was just gonna start falling into place

and then I was gonna have more clients

and I even knew what to do with which again

I'm gonna tell you what

the block that I had with a time scarcity block

years of balancing everything you guys

I was afraid to take on clients

because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to handle it

and I sabotage myself

from being able to take those clients

like that's that's

why you need people to watch for those blind spots

for you so I was doing that

but I also recognized that I

I had tried a couple things

and it wasn't giving me the satisfaction

I thought it would be and so

I made a very brave move to start pivoting

and experimenting and

and like oh

I'm gonna try this for a little bit

and I'm gonna try this and allowed myself to

to restructure my business to rebrand

and that's what I do for people actually

as I take their business down to the studs

and I rebuild it for them

but that's scary

because sometimes pivoting scares the crap out of us

and it also says to ourselves like

oh my gosh I'm not gonna have all this money

if I'm restructuring and stuff

and so

I just want you guys to know that sometimes pivoting

is necessary

and sometimes it means that your income is going to

to drop or stall a little bit

and I have in the process

because I now have so specific on who I work with

it's the people who have the full time

good paying jobs who wanna get out of their business

and they need to do it now

like they're ready if so in six months

like let's do this

and I've had so many people come up to me and say

hey LaChelle like I would really like to work with you

but they're not the good bit for me

and so I've had to be brave enough to say

you know what like I would consider taking you on

but this is what I'm charging

and I charge more because it's like

if it's not something that I really wanna do

I I charge more

but I also more likely in the scenario say

I think that you'd be a better fit for my friend Kathy

I think that this is her expertise

and this is not the direction I'm going in

and I think that

the ability for me to pick up at this extra

you know small hospital

cause I still wanna keep my license anyway

has given me the freedom to make those choices to say

you know I'm going to give up the good for the great

I want to work with these people

because this is what lights me up

this is what I'm really good at

and I am going to be able to say no to the good

in order to have time and energy for the great

in the right fits for me

just getting really

really clear and having that energy around it is

it's gonna work out

but having a backup plan or a safety net

somehow is also gonna help you

stay away from a desperate energy yeah

so I love that you're talking about this

because I definitely went through this in my business

as well first year

I made $320,000 my second year I made $170,000

and the big transition for me was the pivot

I had pivoted my business

and I

I always like to think about it as a money carrot

because I think

when you have the mindset that you're describing

that I that I know that I have for myself

I never think that money is a problem ever

I always know that I can make money

the question is is what kind of value

do I wanna put out into the world

and what kind of time do I wanna dedicate

to all these different ways to make money right

and so

there's always a money carrot in front of our faces

and I feel like it can be very

especially if we have what you call it

do you call it desperation breath

yeah yeah

I love it you have that

you can just start to grab all the carrots

that carrot that carrot

yeah but the discipline of saying

this is the business that I'm building

this is the future that I'm living into

and I haven't announced this public yet

so this is the first time you all are hearing

but I'm pregnant and so

a big part of my experience is going through

and really taking out all the pieces of my business

that are extra time and extra energy

and really boiling down and focusing on what matters

and that has created a shift in my money

and in order to do this it has been a spiritual

it has been a divine practice

yes it has been so much releasing

so much trusting so much

just reminding myself every single day like I am safe

that is like

one of my biggest money mantras

that I will tell myself all the time

I am safe money is never the problem right

um yes

okay so I want to wrap up with one more question

I just want you to look back on your journey

your entrepreneur journey so far

and I want you to give some money advice

like what money advice would you give to that listener

who's sitting there listening

here she is at her job their job wanting to leave

and what money advice would you give them

yeah so

I think that

my philosophy in life is that we

all have one beautiful superpower

that god has given us since

our free will and every single moment you guys

we get to choose again

and I remembered walking into the hospital

and feeling stuck

because I knew I wanted to go off and speak

and write books which had done now right

so fun

and I wanted to do all this stuff and I was stuck

and then I realized like holy crap

like no one is holding a gun to my head

no one is holding the gun to my head

no one is forcing me to walk into this building

it's a choice and when you recognize that none of us

you guys are victims we might have crappy situations

we might have things that have happened to us

you might have been under tremendous hardship

maybe a tornado took out your business

maybe you had a devastating family loss

that ruined everything

I don't know and I don't want to to downplay that

but what I am telling you is that

I want you to use your superpower of choice to

allow yourself to get your power back

to allow yourself to recognize that nothing

can happen to you that you don't allow

and that you get to choose how you respond to things

and so when you're discovering what you wanna do

and how you wanna go about it

I want you to remember that you always have solutions

if you choose to find them

and you will always have excuses

if you choose to allow them

and so if it's something that you want badly enough

sister brother

you will freaking find a way

but you have to be willing to look

you have to choose to rise above

you have to choose to be resourceful and creative

and freaking figure it out

because again nobody's holding the gun to your head

and so when you can

remember that you're not a victim to any of this guys

you are a Vic door and it's up to you

on what you're gonna do in this season

and I want you to make sure that

when you look back on your life

that you do not have regrets

of all the things that you wish you

had been brave enough to do

I want you to get out of the victim mindset

I want you to choose again and say

all right what solutions am I not seen

what creative ideas can I have

I mean

I used to see this all the time where people like

I don't have the money for this what can you sell

what can you give up what can you add as a side hustle

like let's be real here there is always a solution

where you have to be willing to choose it

and that's what I would tell you guys

is that

I don't want any of you guys to feel discouraged

or stuck I mean I have the unstuck podcast

I am very passionate about remembering that

we always get to choose

and I want to encourage you guys to choose

that desire in your heart

and to trust that if god puts that there

that he will equip you for what he's annoying to do for

and I want you to just lean in with some courage

and choose choose to rise above it

choose to go after it choose to get creative

choose your life so good y'all
