allowed me to find my soul sister

and it's such a blessing to be sitting here right now

like the Holy Spirit is in the house today

I know I feel it like Holy Spirit is moving mightily

so get ready folks cause you're about

you're about to get some fire from the Lord

in a wonderful way in a transformative way

so let's show would you please

give us

kind of a little bit of background on your story

and how you got to where you are right now

I would love for our audience to hear that

oh my goodness so I'm just gonna say like one tiny

tiny little step at a time

and I think that that's

one of the things that I want to make sure that

everybody knows is that god does not allow us to see

the entire tire picture at once right

if I were to be told by him like Michelle

I want you to go to the top of that mountain

and I'm looking I'm like

oh Lord that looks like that's way too far

way too hard that that little hill and valley there

that looks too much so I'm I'm gonna sit right here

right he doesn't do that on purpose

because he wants us to take one tiny

little step at a time

and that is gonna be literally how I got to where I am

is just one tiny little small step at a time

I'll give you a condensed version of my story though

I was the typical kid

who grew up in a really poor house

and my mom didn't have much

and so she always said get a good education

get a good job get a good education

get a good job

so I did the things because I am a really good listener

and I'm coachable and I

and I wanted to to take my mom's sage wisdom

so I did all of the things

I got the bachelors I got the masters

I got the Dr. degree I got the

the amazing job

not only working for but teaching at one of the very

very best healthcare system in the entire world

like right now we're No. 1 in the nation

and so I just think like

I did everything that I was supposed to do

but God had different plans for me

and none of it was at a loss guys

so none of it was at a loss

because every tiny little step that I did

he allowed that experience and that

that knowledge and the people that I met along the way

to be part of my journey so just remember that

there's a tiny puzzle piece being put into place

every single time you're obedient

so here I was teaching for the

for the Dr. nurse

anesthesia program at the Mayo Clinic

I was doing anesthesia part time

and I was loving my life and God actually

ironically this is hilarious

because he put a little idea in my head

to start a side business now

here's the deal guys like I'm gonna be honest with you

I had no business starting a business

I was a mom of two kids

my husband is a coach and and a teacher

and it was ball like he's busy right

I was speaking around the country

at national conferences around anesthesia

working full time doing all the things

and he's like hey

Michelle I want you to start this little side business

and get this Michelle

it has to do with skincare

and I know that you don't wash your face

but this is what I want you to do

so that's how I know it's from him because like

there's no way in heck

I would have ever even considered anything like this

but I just kind of you know like oh

that's cute what that person's doing

and it kept coming up kept coming up

kept it coming up

my feed in my thoughts and conversations

and I remember thinking God

is this what you want me to do for real

and and then I one day I was like alright

fine fine I will do this

but I want you to send me the people that I can help

and you're gonna have to show me what I need to do

because I have no clue what this is all about

but I was obedient

take took one tiny tiny little step in faith right

so amongst my my crazy life

I decided to start a side business

which is hilarious in skincare

which again I had to learn how to wash my face

but what the heck did you guys

was it

allowed me to learn

the lesson that he wanted me to learn

it was that if we are willing to trust him

and we're willing to do the things

that he's asking us to do

the tiny little things he will show us

a life beyond anything we could have ever imagined

I thought I was living my dream life

but what god knew was that

I wasn't

devoting the time and energy that needed to my family

that he knew was on my heart

and he knew that I would regret that at my old age

which is why I didn't become a cardiac surgeon

which is what I had originally wanted to do

like he knew what was on my heart

but I had gotten lost in the weeds

I got lost in all the things that I needed to do

should do and I was doing all the things

but he's like hey Michelle

you're not spending the time

on the most important team you'll ever lead

so what he did was

he gave me this tiny

little business that I started to just come alive

I started to discover talents that I had

that I didn't have I started to discover how

he can show up in my life

and help me

show other people how we can show up in theirs

and everything started to change

and I discovered that I had this tiny

little fire inside of me

that had never been able to come out

because you guys see

the whole time that I was doing all of my things

of the things that I should do

I was actually doing a really good job blending in

and not standing out on purpose and

and really just trying to like

tow the line and be the good girl in the Wallflower

do all the things

and God had dubbed other things in store for me

and so what he did was

he showed me that this tiny

little side businesses could be the catalyst

to help me see life in a different way

that I could have an and life

I could be challenged and fulfilled

and make a different and be a good present mom and wife

and within about six months

I was making enough money in this tiny

little side hustle to cut down a day

a week at the hospital

he knew what I needed before I even did

and that entire tiny little business that I don't even

you know

work on anymore was the catalyst to the next step

to the next step to the next step

and here I am literally living my dream life

you guys

I just resigned a few weeks ago from my dream job

I left the Mayo Clinic I left a 20 year career

and I'm following him and where he's leading me

and I promise you that it's not always like very um

clear and sometimes it's scary

and sometimes you don't know all the answers

but I never in a million years

thought that I would be sitting on a platform

like this with Dr. Darlene

getting to spread the spirit into your life

through my experiences like how amazing is that

so here we are today um

literally just choosing to get unstuck

one tiny little step of obedience at a time

that's my story oh my goodness

Dr. Lachelle I just

you know

you and I have talked and I know a lot of your story

but I did not know your your childhood

your mother and my mother must have been friends

oh my goodness haha

funny right

like yeah

it's gonna do something so that you're always stable

and your kids are now or

you know worried about everything right

and it's just

it's so interesting to me because here's the thing

my mother was very faithful

I don't know if yours was too

but she was very stuck in this orphan mindset of no

we have to do everything for ourselves

and it's like where is God in that

and I even remember I made

I made a contract with myself as a child

that I wound up having to

break as an adult and I said

no matter what I do I am gonna do something that

I am never gonna be in a position

that is going to be financially unstable

that my kids might not have something to eat yeah

out on the street and god absolutely

I'm sure he was sitting there like okay yeah

let's see how that works for you right

me too

and I gotta just tell you one thing that you just said

like really just struck a chord with me

and I wanted to say this and I love my mom

you guys like she's the most amazing person

but I also think that when we are adults

and we get a chance to look at things

from different perspectives

we get a chance to appreciate different things

about the people who raised us right

my mom god love her struggled with unworthiness

whether she wanted to admit it or not

she struggled with unworthiness

now this is where this is important

she never thought

thought that she was worthy enough to ask god for help

so she told me so many times like

you can't ask God for the little things Michelle

you have to to pull yourself up at the bootstraps

you gotta worry about yourself

you need to take care of yourself

because God has bigger things to take care of

than the tiny little things that we ask him for

and therefore

she instilled upon me the self reliance out of unrouted

unworthiness and what is so fascinating is that

on my journey to know the Lord better

and to really work on some of the things myself

I know that because of my worthiness

I don't have to take care of myself amen

amen to that he calls us worthy

he makes us worthy it's his righteousness

and it's in the tiny

little things that we ask him for help

the tiny little things

we're showing him that we're willing to trust him

in the little things and the big things guys

it's a muscle and Dr.

Marlene talks about

all the things that we Learned with brain science

like it's a muscle when we learn to train ourselves

to trust him in the tiniest little things

then when it comes to the really big leaps of faith

we've already built that muscle up

but we have to remember that we're already worthy

and whole regardless

and that is why he wants to help us

in the big and the little things

I love that I love it so much

and it it comes down to identity

and I think you and I talked about this recently

a couple weeks ago too

right and I love that God brought you out

you know not totally out

but partly out of something

out enough to start a side

side business I think it's hilarious

like yeah

I know when I

when I left neurosurgery

I had no business running a business either like okay

well I guess this is what we're doing

but here's

the thing that I think is just such an important point

your yes folks

to something that the Lord is leading you to

that may not even make sense okay

No. 1 I wanna tell you one thing that

just like Michelle said right

that was for then that was for a season

it doesn't mean that your yes

he's asking you to do is for the rest of your life okay

and I think that's something I missed for a long time

too and and you know

it's so important and look where you are now

you're gonna hear uh I'm Michelle

I'm gonna let you talk about the unstuck podcast in a

in a few minutes invite you to do that

but I mean

if you had not said yes to that side business

for something you didn't even know anything about right

nothing

your identity would have stayed as an anesthesiologist

right it would have stayed as a nurse anestheist

I wanna make sure I'm clear about that

cause there is a difference

and I love my anesthesiologist friends

I'm a nurse and artist

I just wanna be like really respectful of that yes

I would have stayed in that identity

because that was the identity

that I thought I needed to have

and not have the identity that God had for me

which was a child of God who is a

a

and exhort her

in the way that I want to help bring him alive

alive in the tiny little things that we do every day

and I just wanna say this real quick

that when he asked me to start the side business okay

not only was I would not wash my face

like I had no clue you guys

like whatever happened to follow my face in the shower

from my Pantene Pro

V was what was called it good

like that's the deal right

but I can go back to the wordiness

because that was a huge part of this

is that part of me starting the side business

it forced me to start using Big Girl skincare

not only did it force me to use big girl skincare

but it forced me to spend money on big girl skincare

and to spend the time on myself

to use the big girl skincare

those two things tied back to my unworthiness

I had never felt worthy

enough of spending time or money on myself

now it's amazing

how he uses the tiniest little things to teach us

the things about ourselves

that he already knows that I am already worthy of

the time and the money to do

the things that I need to serve him

and everybody that's supposed to have that right

and so the other thing that I wanted to say here too

is that you don't have to feel equipped

I'm rereading Genesis right now

and I just I think it's hilarious how Moses

like said this several times

but God but God but God I don't I don't I don't speak

I'm a clumsy speaker but God but God I can't do that

he will equip us and I think that um

I I you guys I'm an introvert

I am such

such an introvert

that I would be like the person who's like

if I'm gonna meet you at a party I will say okay

I will meet you outside door be at 6:57

so we can walk in together

like that's me okay

I my Facebook following a 200 friends on social media

if I didn't know your mom

you didn't need to know my business

so like I was very selective on who was there

and the only thing I ever posted was like

the occasional shared inspirational post

post from Toby Mac like let's be real

like that was my that was as big of a

an impact as I was ready to make

but he equipped me and I think about this a lot

when I was in Jackson Hole

Wyoming and the Grand Tetons this summer

my kids really wanted to go on this hike

and they really

really wanted to jump off this really big rock

at Belts Lake okay

now it took us it was a 5 or Six Mile

round trip hike to get to this rock

and I would say half of it was like uphill

it was an intense intense hike

and I remember coming back from this

this rock

we had already done the thing we went there for

so like the the excitements kind of gone right

like we're not in test anticipated anything

we're like heading back to the car

and I remember thinking like

oh my gosh like this is so hard

just then I found a stick that was the exact height

the exact size the exact shape

as a walking stick that I would have purchased at any

at any store in in the national parks

and that stick was what I used to literally prance

like with energy up my way the rest of this hike

God gave me the tool that I needed

at the time that I needed it

and what was so fun and I took a picture of this

when I got to the end of this trail

and ready to get to the car

I set the stick down at the entrance of the park

so that the next person who needed it

had it when they needed it

God that's what he does for us guys

that's why we're here beautiful

so beautiful I love that

and it's even in the small things

I just I love that right

there is nothing too small

we think about and we talk about all the time

there's nothing too great for our God right

but we don't think about

he is the god of the little things too

he is the god and I know you study quantum physics too

but he's in those details right

he's in the little quantums right

and and yes

it makes such a difference when you understand

like the expansiveness of who he is

yes pray for the huge miracles right

you need a home you need a new job

you need finances you need this or that right

you need a better understanding of your identity

but you know what when you

when you go to him and you say God

I'm a little tired on this walk

you know and you may not even know what you need

but just you know

mentioning that to him and sharing your heart with him

and there he shows up with exactly what you need

I mean there's a ram in the bush

oh my God oh God

so good I love this

I love this well

I do I wanna transition to

oh my gosh okay

well that that

you know I don't wanna give you like the whole

you know all the details

but I'll just tell you why I started the podcast

to begin with number one

it was a tiny little way for me to meet more people

cause I wanted to expand my business

so so it starts out with something really innocent

right but it also is weaved into

all the beautiful things that God does

to allow us to step in his obedience

because I think that this is the thing

I wanna tell you guys again

as well is sometimes it's really scary to

to really step into where he's leading you

and I want to remind you all that

he will not give up on you

if it is his plan for you

and so he will give you another tiny

little piece of the puzzle

another tiny little piece of puzzle

until all of a sudden it all comes together

you're like well

why haven't I done that sooner

and so this is what happened

like the thing is is that I wanted to

you know

create a space for me to show up in my business

and meet new people

that was its first tiny little thing

but that's not enough to like

get you out of your comfort zone

remember

I'm the introvert who shows up at 6:57 with my friend

so when I when I you know

was thinking about it that was about as far as I got

and then a couple of things happened

No. 1 I'm a nerd

I love to read I love to listen to podcasts

I love to have conversations with people that are

living their best life

and there was one thing that kept coming up

as a general theme in any sing

every single conversation book podcast

everything

and I'm and I promise you that if you look for it

you will find it it is that successful people

or people who live a life well lived

are the ones who choose to not allow themselves

to save the conservative circumstances

they figure out a way to rise above it

do not blame they do not wallow

they literally decide that

I'm going to choose something

to rise above the circumstance

and I really

really found that that was so important to teach myself

teach the kids that I'm raising

teach the people that I care about

that if we truly wanna step into our greatness

we have to decide to rise above our circumstances

to own what we can and to look for the solution

that are right in front of us

and God will provide okay

the other thing that I wanna mention

and I don't always tell people this story

but I think it's kind of a cool

powerful story because

I think that

we underestimate the impact that we can make

because the one of

the reason that I started this podcast

is because of my grandma

and I might even tear up because I loved her so much

so she passed away several years ago

but

my grandma was the most amazing person I've ever met

and the thing about her that stood out to me was that

despite the fact that when she was 10 years old

her mom died of the flu and six months later

her dad died of tuberculosis from the war

she was sent out to California

to live with her grandparents

her asthma got bad they sent her back to Minnesota

she stayed with an aunt and uncle who unfortunately

were grieving the loss of their son to polio

and they didn't treat them very well

they didn't allow them to go to school

and they they were the abuse neglected

just didn't have a good childhood

she ended up joining the Navy

met my grandpa and the two of them had 7 kids

unfortunately two of them passed away unexpectedly

one of them died in surgery and the other one died um

by a he was hit by a car

my grandma had every reason

to have a chip on her shoulder

she had every reason to be angry at the world

to be angry at God yet she showed up at mass every day

she was an amazing woman

who taught me what resilience is like

and I never got to ask her

you guys how she was able to be the person she is

despite everything that happened

because there was someone else in my life

that was an instrumental person

who got cardiomyopathy and and

and needed a heart transplant

and didn't have a very positive post operative course

and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life

and he was angry and bitter and

and I and I looked at him and I thought gosh

you have a heart of a 28 year old man

who's no longer here

and you have every reason to be grateful

and you're not yet

my grandma was someone who had every reason to be not

and yet she was

and I never got to ask her how she did that

and I truly feel like

every conversation that I have in the inside podcast

is like a conversation with my grandma

I get to ask people who have been there

how did you do it what are some practical solutions

and some tips that we can learn from you

and your experience so

that we understand

that we're not alone in our suffering

but yet there is hope to get out of it

and I get it I get it

kind of get a little feeling that I get

a chance to have a conversation from heaven

every single time I interview someone in that podcast

so that's kind of why I do it honestly

I wanna give people hope and practical solutions

that there is better in store

as long as you look for it

and it's all around us

that is so good Michelle

oh my goodness

and you know what maybe

you didn't get a chance to ask

your grandmother about that

but we know right

you carry that mantle right

you carry that mantle spiritually and physically

and I'm sure she is so proud of you right now

thank you and what you're doing

how you you know

continue because it is folks

it's about not getting it

we gotta break free from the victim mentality right

we've got to break free know that the Lord is the judge

our justice and our redeemer

right for all things

so you know

you do it starts with a choice

and I love that you said that

because it starts in your mindset right

it starts with that and it's not an overwhelming choice

again folks

just like you know

what the Lord is leading you into right now

may not be forever right

the choice you make today

it's about today Jesus talked about this right

he's like yesterday was enough trouble of its own

just stay focused on the presence and look at my vision

right I meant to say present

but I said presents

but I actually don't think that was a slip of

his presence right in the present

and you are gonna see this transformation

this is how you get unstuck

it's not the top of the mountain right

it's next step right

next step honestly

who cares if it's five miles or 10 miles

or 100 miles to the top

as long as you're walking with the Lord right

you got Holy Spirit right beside

you got Jesus in your heart

you got Father God looking over you right

then

would you take those steps and hand them with the Lord

then it doesn't matter how high the mountain is

it just doesn't matter so exactly

and I think so

many of us

don't recognize the gifts that we've been given

and that's one of the gifts that I have

is I can see other people's gifts

and I can see how God can use them

and I can put all the different pieces together

your blind spots

your failures your your obstacles and your gifts

and I can put it all together

and help you create a road map

that is gonna help you take that next

small step and I didn't realize that until my

recent part of my journey

and I just think that you guys just recognize that

you're all uniquely equipped for something amazing

you just get to choose

to surround yourself with the people who can help you

see it surround yourself with the word of God

that he can help you see it in yourself

surround yourself with the things

are gonna lift you up

because he will show you the next step

I promise and you can make the difference in

in big and little ways

because just like my grandma made a huge difference

in just the way she was the being that she was

so you don't have to be on big stages

writing books or any of the things

you can choose to show up every single day

as your best self and

and choose to serve the Lord in the smallest ways

and make the biggest difference

that is so good that is so good

I'm

and I told them I couldn't do it

praying out loud because the Holy Spirit is in me

and I am so grateful to show up in this way

because he has allowed me

to learn and transition

to a place where I can do this comfortably

so there is hope for you if you're stuck there okay

dear God thank you so much for this beautiful

beautiful community that Dr. Darlene has built Lord

I know that everyone here in our presence today

is going to be stepping into the most amazing

beautiful life that you have intended for them

god I know that sometimes it's scary

but you will equip us every step of the way

the scripture and the confidence that we need

to just take the next step in faith
