Tired of Faking It? It's Time to Be Authentically YOU in Your Business

Ever scroll through social media and feel like you're looking at a highlight reel of someone else's life? In business, especially when it comes to branding, it's easy to fall into the trap of trying to emulate what seems to be working for others. We time block, we strategize, and yet, sometimes it feels like we're just throwing spaghetti at the wall, hoping something sticks. And let's be honest, by the end of a long day, firing off a social media post can feel like just another task to check off the list.

But what if I told you that the secret to truly magnetic marketing isn't just about consistency, but about something much more powerful: your authentic self?

Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting my Magnetic Marketing Retreat, where incredible women came together to map out a year's worth of social media content. What I realized during that time is that beneath the desire for strategy and systems, there's often a deeper yearning for peace and flow. And that flow? It comes when we stop trying to be who we think we should be and start embracing who we truly are.

The Head Trash Holding You Back

Let's be real. Showing up consistently on social media can bring up a ton of baggage. Do any of these thoughts sound familiar?

  • "What if people from my past think I've changed?"

  • "Am I promoting myself too much?"

  • "Will people judge me?"

It's that internal noise, that "head trash," that often paralyzes us more than a lack of time. It chips away at our confidence, making visibility feel scary instead of exciting. I remember when I first started my business back in 2016, my social media was a tiny circle. If I didn't know your mom, you probably weren't in my online world! And even then, I was terrified to share anything that wasn't perfectly curated. The fear of being seen, judged, or failing in front of others was real.

Your Evolution and the Same Old Fear

What's interesting is that as we grow in our businesses, as we "spiral up," we often encounter new versions of the same old fears. We take on new expectations of who we should be and what we should be doing. But honestly? That's a load of crap.

I'm giving you permission right now to just do what feels good to you. Yes, strategies are important, but they must be considered through the lens of your own comfort and authenticity. Borrowing someone else's strategy without connecting with the "why" behind it can feel inauthentic, and that lack of genuine energy? People can feel it.

The Science of Authentic Connection

Let's get a little nerdy for a second. The energy you have while creating content – whether it's a text, a podcast, or a social media post – is actually perceived by the person receiving it. Think about it: words are neutral. It's the tone, the emotion, the underlying vibe that carries the real message. Through a process called quantum entanglement and the mirror neurons in our brains, your audience picks up on that energy. If you're feeling needy, desperate, or just going through the motions, that's what they'll sense.

Permission to Be You: My Own Journey

It's easy to look at people who seem to be crushing it on social media and think, "I just need to do what they're doing." And while there's a strategy called the "ten by ten rule" – find ten people you resonate with and look at their top ten posts – the key is to make it your own. You have to infuse your own voice, your own energy, your own unique flavor. Otherwise, it will fall flat.

So, freaking own it! Own the fact that you are beautifully, uniquely you. If you love dresses with sneakers, rock it. If athleisure wear is your jam, embrace it. Stop trying to fit into some preconceived notion of what a successful businesswoman "should" be.

I've even experienced this in my own journey. There's a part of me that's a super chill, small-town farm girl who loves bonfires and country music. Then there's the part of me that adores pretty things, intentional design, and putting together stylish outfits. For a while, I felt like I had to choose one or the other. But guess what? Both are authentically me! And just like my love for hats started out of pure laziness (not wanting to backcomb my hair!), sometimes our most authentic quirks become part of our unique brand story.

Finding Your Voice: Beyond the Inspiration

I also struggled with finding my voice. As someone who feels very spirit-led, my podcast episodes often flow organically. I love to inspire and help women see what's possible. But there's also a super quirky, silly, and sarcastic side to me. I love puns and a good-natured tease.

For a long time, I hesitated to let that side show, especially in written content, because sarcasm can easily be misinterpreted. I never want to come across as snarky or rude. But recently, while preparing for my social media retreat and working with AI tools to define brand voices, I realized that these different facets of my personality don't have to be separate. My inspirational side and my quirky side can coexist and even complement each other.

Your Way is the Right Way

So, here's your permission slip: stop putting yourself in a box. Stop shaming yourself. Stop thinking you're going to get it "wrong." The right way is your way. While it's wise to consider strategies, always filter them through your own intuition and authenticity.

This journey of building a magnetic brand is about trusting your inner guidance and allowing yourself to be seen and heard for who you truly are. It's about tapping into that flow where strategy and authenticity dance together.
